State environmental officials in Florida began drawing water samples from about 50 wells in Acreage.
They are also expected to sample soil at two local schools this week, reported the Palm Beach Post on August 4, 2009.
According to the Post, the tests are being conducted in response to worries about environmental contamination in Acreage. Some residents are speaking with an environmental lawyer at our firm about their health concerns.
Residents there are waiting for the state Department of Health to announce whether there is a cancer cluster in their central Palm Beach County community.
Reportedly, the DEP's sampling will cover 10 square miles of The Acreage and include homes, schools and day-care centers.
Most of The Acreage's 50,000 residents rely on well water. A preliminary assessment report of those water sampling tests is expected within two months.
The county plans to test drinking water and take soil and groundwater samples at Golden Grove Elementary School and Western Pines Middle School, which are on the same property.
