Minnesota Department of Agriculture Announces Proposed
Plan
This Proposed Plan identifies the Minnesota Department of
Agriculture’s (MDA) preferred remedial action to address the sources of arsenic
contamination affecting the soil and ground water at the CMC Heartland Lite Yard
Superfund Site (Site) in Minnesota. The preferred remedial action includes the
excavation of the most contaminated soil in the documented “central hot spot”,
treatment and removal of that soil from the site to an approved specially
regulated landfill, treatment of moderately contaminated soil, placement of a
minimum four foot layer of clean fill cover over moderately and slightly
contaminated soil, ground water monitoring, and institutional controls
(restrictions on the future use of the property) to address residual arsenic
contamination at the CMC Heartland Lite Yard Site. Air and dust monitoring will
be conducted during excavation and treatment activities.
