Hanford Ordered to Comply with Arsenic Standards

September 18, 2006

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered Hanford to adhere to a compliance schedule for removing arsenic from its drinking water to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

In certain parts of Hanford, the water exceeds the new federal standard for arsenic by as much as 40 parts per billion.

Changes will start as soon as next year and take several years to complete.
