Problem Definition/Background Information regarding arsenic poisoning in
Minneapolis, Minnesota:
The South Minneapolis site is located in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, in Hennepin County. Between 1989 and 2005, soil sampling
investigations conducted by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), the
Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), and USEPA indicated the presence of
elevated concentrations of arsenic. The site was originally defined as bounded
to the west by 16th Avenue South, to the south by East 31st Street, to the east
by Hiawatha Avenue, and to the north by East 25th Street. However, air
dispersion modeling conducted by USEPA has indicated that the site may encompass
a larger area. The site is located primarily in an urban residential area, with
some areas of commercial and industrial businesses.
