Do you fit the description below? If so, you may want to consider getting tested for exposure to asbestos. Read each of the subsequent items for the main characteristics of those who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- Anyone with breathing problems
- People with protracted exposure to asbestos
- People who think they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related vocations, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no evident exposure signs or difficulty breathing
In general, there is a group of diseases that are associated with asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The main indicators of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible warning signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is a necessity to get tested if you presume that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Other tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Physicians may speak a language unintelligible to the typical patient. Don't be afraid to question your physician about your status. If you don't completely comprehend your doctor, have him break it down so can better know your condition. All citizens who have participated in the United States Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as lung cancer.
Exposure to asbestos can negatively impact your health. Weitz & Luxenberg understands this and is here to help. For a free consultation, fill out the form below.
