Different categories of people with asbestos exposure should be tested for asbestos-related diseases. Read each of the bullet points below for the chief characteristics of individuals who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- People with breathing problems
- People with extended exposure to asbestos
- People who think they have had extended exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related environments, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms or respiratory issues
The following are the ailments which have been linked to asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). Some symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these warning signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is vital to seek a professional opinion if you believe that you have been exposed to asbestos. Other ways of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Additional tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Doctors sometimes speak a language puzzling to the layman. If you are confused, you can ask your medical professional about your condition. If you don't totally grasp your doctor, have him put it in plain words so you can better know your condition. Weitz & Luxenberg believes that all citizens who have participated in the U.S. Armed orces should receive the benefits they deserve. This includes compensation for deadly diseases such as lung cancer.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation no matter when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to initiate the process.
