Asbestos found in Columbia County, NY, office
A positive test for a small amount of asbestos dust resulted in closing one office in the Columbia County's Carl Frederick Administration Building for a half-day last week, according to county Building and Grounds Department Director Cory Wiegel.
Wiegel said someone from the Columbia County District Attorney's office conducted an air quality test in the office, and the test came back positive for asbestos.
Wiegel said the courthouse, like almost all buildings 30 or more years old, has asbestos in its floors, walls, ceilings and other places.
This led, he said, to closing down the office of the victim-witness program for a half-day Monday, March 31. Workers were back in the office the next morning, he said.
