Shipyards in Connecticut exposed workers to asbestos

According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services), between 1940 and 1980 an estimated 27 million American workers had an occupational exposure to asbestos that could affect their health.

These workers include the thousands of workers who were exposed to asbestos while working for shipyards in the United States. Many of these workers spent their careers working at shipyards in Connecticut. The shipyards in Connecticut include:

  • The Electric Boat Shipyard
  • The Derector Shipyard
  • The Naval Submarine Base New London
Workers at these shipyards who were exposed to asbestos are at an increased risk for developing serious lung diseases such as Mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

When you or a family member has been diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer, you depend on your medical team to provide the best care for your illness.
