HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ,
ASBESTOS LAWYER
Atlantic County, NJ, is ranked high for asbestos deaths
A Weitz & Luxenberg mesothelioma lawyer reports on the dangers of asbestos exposure in Hamilton Township, located in asbestos-plagued Atlantic County, NJ.
May 20, 2009 – New Jersey has a poor record when it comes to asbestos-related mortalities, said a Weitz & Luxenberg asbestos lawyer familiar with a recent study conducted by the EWG Action Fund, a non-profit environmental research group headquartered in Washington, D.C.
The study is the first-ever wide-range examination of asbestos-related mortalities in the United States, as reported to the federal government via death certificate records from 1979 through 2001.
According to the findings, New Jersey is the sixth most deadly state in the nation for asbestos exposure. Between 1979 and 2001, at least 2,775 people died from asbestos in New Jersey.
This figure is a low estimate and could actually be as high as 3,505, says the report, because the federal government didn’t begin tracking mesothelioma as a cause of death until 1999.
