Read below to see if you are at risk for exposure to asbestos. Read each of the subsequent items for the most common characteristics of those who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- Those with breathing problems
- Individuals with prolonged exposure to asbestos
- Those who think they have had extended exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related areas, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no evident exposure signs or difficulty breathing
The following are ailments associated with asbestos exposure:
- Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs);
- Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs);
- Lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung).
Symptoms that signal asbestos exposure
The main indicators of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these warning signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is imperative to get tested if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. Other ways of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Additional tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. There are times when a doctor may speak a language that could be confusing to the layman. As a patient, you should be sure to question your doctor about your status.
If you don't fully understand your doctor, have him break it down so can better comprehend. Weitz & Luxenberg stands by the belief that all people who have participated in the United States Armed orces should receive the services they deserve. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases such as mesothelioma.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation no matter when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to initiate the process.
