Here is some information concerning asbestos at MacArthur Elementary. Thompson further explained the concept of the allowable amount. “They have what they call a permissible exposure level (PEL), which is .1 percent,” he said. “All of the air that we sampled out there was below the detection level. They couldn’t even pick up a fiber on the microscope. It was well below the PEL.”

Thompson said the report he filed is part of a procedure set up in a management plan for a “fiber release episode” of any kind. “That was the procedure that we followed,” he said. “The state asked for a report which was filed with them, and they concurred that everything looked fine.”
