Asbestos removal needed at Southmoreland Elementary School
Construction at Southmoreland Elementary School continues to progress despite some minor setbacks. Ron Rink, clerk of the works for the building project, told Southmoreland School District directors at their planning meeting that demolition at the elementary school continues, including asbestos abatement.
He said directors would have to approve an additional asbestos removal contract in the cafeteria because it has fallen from the ceiling above the drop-ceiling tiles. He said the additional work would cost $4,000. He said that $12,000 would be required for the complete ceiling demolition, which would remove all asbestos in the building, except for some located in sealed crawl spaces. Old boilers also have asbestos inside, he said.
