Asbestos Control Program Regulations Applicable To All Asbestos Abatement Activities Occurring Within NYC
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection provides information about asbestos abatement activities in NYC. Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
Negative pressure ventilation equipment shall be used to continuously exhaust the enclosed area according to regulations, except that the negative air pressure shall be demonstrated by smoke testing. The hose shall be attached securely and airtight through the tent wall at the most remote location possible from the ACM to be disturbed. A minimum of two volume changes per hour is required.
Removal of ACM shall be by wet methods in accordance with regulations. ACM removed shall be placed in a leak-tight container without dropping it.
