News from Our Asbestos Lawyers: Five Arizona Charter Schools Fined by EPA
Arizona Asbestos News Updates from Our Lawyers
In May 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it had assessed fines against five charter schools in Arizona for violations of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).
The fines resulted from an April 2007 EPA inspection, where the schools were found to have failed to conduct inspections for asbestos-containing materials in school buildings and failure to develop mandatory asbestos management plans.
The four schools were assessed fines ranging from $200-$12,600.
Even limited exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious illnesses such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer or asbestosis.
