Asbestos Being Removed at Arlington, KY Area Demolition Site
In June 2009, the Kentucky Division of Waste Management announced it was working to remove asbestos-containing debris from an Arlington, KY area demolition site.
The site is the location of an electroplating facility that closed in the late 1980s. After the abandoned buildings on the property were scrapped for metals recovery, building materials and other demolition debris were left throughout the site. Testing of those materials revealed they were contaminated with asbestos.
The division’s director announced they were conducting initial planning to clean up the contaminated site, and were working with local officials to ensure the public would not be at risk for exposure to dangerous asbestos dusts.
Even limited exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious illnesses such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer or asbestosis.
