Auto Mechanics at Risk from Asbestos Exposure: Important Court Ruling in New York City
In March 2007, a New York judge ruled on a case involving an auto mechanic that developed an asbestos-related disease as a result of exposure from working with asbestos-containing brakes.
One of the defendants in this case, Ford Motor Company, wanted to have their training materials and videos excluded from evidence.
Ford claimed that their brake materials were safe, however, their materials included a warning that they contain asbestos, and that asbestos from those brakes causes cancer and other diseases.
In ruling against Ford, the judge stated that Ford does not state that the warnings were on their materials “…solely for the purposes of complying with government regulations.”
Sadly, this situation, where exposure to asbestos was easily preventable, is all too familiar to the mesothelioma attorneys in the Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. Asbestos Litigation unit.
We are a leading plaintiffs' law firm that has represented people affected by mesothelioma for over 20 years. Men and women diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies responsible for their disease.
