Brewery workers at risk for asbestos illnesses such as lung cancer. Our lawyers can help.
Few in the United States are aware that asbestos was long used as an additive material for the filtration of many kinds of alcoholic beverages. This in turn placed brewery workers at risk for asbestos-related illnesses such as cancer and asbestosis.
Such was the case with a man who recently died of lung cancer, which he contracted through his exposure to asbestos during work in a brewery between 1967 and 1985.
He had been employed to remove asbestos from boilers at a brewery.
Before he died, he said he had not received protective clothing in the first few years he worked at the site.
His widow recalled that her husband had not been equipped with masks or apparel designed to protect him from asbestos, which has been a known carcinogen for decades.
Of her husband's work in the brewery, she said he was required to crawl on all fours in the boiler, chipping at the asbestos.
"He was in the thick of it," she said.
Before he died, he filed legal proceedings against his employer to claim compensation.
Unfortunately, asbestos is often found wrapped around the hot water or steam pipes of old boilers, or wrapped around the ducts of old furnaces. It is also found often in the furnace or boiler jackets of older equipment.
Many boiler mechanics, inspectors and boiler tenders in a brewery or other business have come forward to say their work environment led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.
If this has been your experience, our asbestos lawyers may be able to help you receive compensation for your health problems.
