Brighton, NY Company Charged with Dumping Hazardous Asbestos Wastes
In March 2009, a contractor hired by the city of Brighton, NY was charged with dumping asbestos-containing debris at area landfills not designated for asbestos waste.
The company was also charged with billing the city for the higher dumping fees the company would have incurred had the debris been disposed of at approved asbestos waste sites.
A number of federal agencies are involved in the criminal investigation of the company and several employees. Those agencies include the IRS, the U.S. Attorney's Office, the EPA, the Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.
