Hospital Gym in Butner, NC Found to Have Asbestos
A March 6, 2009 report in the Raleigh, NC News and Observer reported that an environmental study for asbestos and mold had been conducted in a Butner, NC hospital gym facility. The facility was once used to house mentally ill children.
The study revealed that asbestos was present in floor and ceiling tiles throughout the building. The mold testing revealed that spore count levels were 61 times greater than in the air outside the building.
The building was closed in January 2009 after a steam pipe leak was determined to be beyond repair.
