Asbestos cancer factories risk - grandmother with mesothelioma and her family's fight for compensation
Asbestos cancer from exposure in factories: We can help workers secure settlements for mesothelioma
In recent news, a retired New York woman who worked in factories developed an asbestos cancer 40 years after coming into contact with the carcinogen.
The woman, 63, a grandmother to 5, came in contact with asbestos dust and fibers while she was working as a polisher in several factories in Brooklyn and Queens.
The retiree died in November last year soon after being diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer, a rare form of cancer often caused by asbestos.
After leaving school in Manhattan in the 1960s, she got a job polishing silverware in factories and would complain back then of being covered in dust, her husband recalled.
"She was always covered in dust."
Her daughter also said: "She was always covered in dust. She went straight into the shower when she got home and did not even want to sit down for fear of getting the dirt on her sofa."
After working for a total of five years, the woman stopped to start a family.
Unfortunately, it took only that period of exposure time to later contract mesothelioma cancer.
At its height of popularity, asbestos was used in more than 3,000 consumer products ranging from kitchen mitts to roofing shingles. Anyone who worked in a factory that made a product containing asbestos was likely exposed to airborne asbestos on a regular basis.
Her family has now set up a fund to assist others who are diagnosed with mesothelioma and asbestos lung cancer.
Their hope is to raise awareness about asbestos. They have also filed an asbestos lawsuit with our firm to seek justice for the harm caused by entirely avoidable exposure in occupational settings.
