Asbestos exposure is the sole cause of your asbestosis – learn how to take action against those who caused your exposure
“When you have asbestosis, you look normal. People expect you to act normal…but you don’t have the lung capacity. With people who have asbestosis, you only have half of the air [then that of a health person]. I’ve always been someone who could talk loud. [After being diagnosed with asbestosis] I have nodules on my vocal chords from forcing my voice – projecting my voice. Also…if I carry something in two hands, I can’t get five feet without really sucking in air.”

Asbestos fibers that you worked with on a daily basis may have looked and felt like cotton, but they were made from stone. These tiny bits of stone fibers would break loose many times during your work day and some were accidently breathed. Perhaps you were wrapping pipes when this happened. Perhaps you were working in a mine. However you were exposed, know that you have the right to pursue compensation for your illness.
Weitz & Luxenberg can help you in this pursuit. We have been helping people who have asbestosis, asbestos cancer, mesothelioma, conditions just like yours, for over two decades. We know the problem, the law, and the right method to help you receive financial compensation for your illness.

The biology of how asbestos causes asbestosis
Asbestos is made up of microscopic stone fibers. When these fibers are breathed in, some gets stuck in the lungs. The lungs try to absorb or fight them off in the way that your body would a splinter. The fibers are simply too strong for your body to handle, and scar tissue begins to build up around the area of the asbestos fibers.
Over time, your lungs made more and more scar tissue in attempts to fight the fibers. Unlike normal lung tissue, scar tissue is harder and cannot take in air easily. This causes the pain and shortness of breath you experience (PubMed).
Did asbestos companies know about the dangers of asbestos?
Yes. Unfortunately, the companies that were involved in the process of making and installing asbestos products (this includes mining and distributing) knew all along that asbestos caused horrible diseases such as asbestosis and mesothelioma.
An the article Asbestos: An Industry's Lethal Cover-Up, author Russell Mokhiber discusses the evidence proving that major asbestos companies knew about the dangers and intentionally kept the information secret. He cites a study conducted by the company Johns-Manville on their own employees who worked with asbestos daily. In the study, Johns-Manville found that out of 780 asbestos workers, 534 had “lung changes”, which was later known as asbestosis (Multinationalmonitor).
