Steps to take Before issuing asbestos-related citation

Prior to issuing asbestos-related citations including significant violations, The Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act enforcement staff are expected to review the employer history for previous citations for significant violations before taking additional steps.

In any asbestos-related inspection where significant violations are issued, The Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act enforcement staff must document the asbestos supervisor’s name and certificate number, as well as the abatement contractor certificate number, on The Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act 1-B.

Even short-term exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious illnesses such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer or asbestosis.
