ASBESTOS CONTRACTORS
Steps for hiring asbestos abatement contractors
Asbestos contractors
April 9, 2010 - Hiring asbestos contractors to remove asbestos-containing materials from a home is essentially the same as hiring any other kinds of contractors. At a minimum:
- Evaluate their professional track record, licensing status and cost proposals.
- Consider hiring an asbestos inspector to assess the situation and oversee the work of asbestos contractors involved in the actual abatement.
- Ask for a reference list of recent clients and contact them.
- Get multiple bids and compare them in detail. (Proper removal of toxic asbestos materials is an activity in which quality and care in workmanship may be more important than price.)
Some states maintain data bases of complaints against contractors and their conformity to regulations.
Even if it takes some research on your part, it is a good idea to check directly with local air-pollution and worker-safety authorities, as well as the Better Business Bureau.
