The Derbyshire Evening Telegraph placed an emphasis on asbestos diseases in its Augst 19, 2008 edition, pointing out that many areas of England are frought with those who are newly diagnosed.
The report points out that asbestos illness is caused by inhaling the mineral's dust, and concludes that this was an inevitability for so many people who worked in the construction industry, where asbestos was commonly used in decades past.
The Telegraph also highlights the main diseases that asbestos can cause: asbestosis (the scarring of lung tissue), lung cancer, mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the chest and lungs) and pleural disease.
The newspaper concludes that its readership area is considered "a hotspot because of its history of heavy engineering, and over the past 30 years at least 300 Derbyshire people have died of the disease."
