Asbestos Dust Deaths on the Rise as Tradesmen Still Disturb the Fibers in Old Buildings.

A health organization in England has embarked on a campaign to raise awareness of the rising deaths in tradesmen related to exposure to asbestos dust.

Exposure to asbestos dusts and fibers has been found to be the greatest cause of work-related deaths and the overall number is rising.

This is because a large number of workers who have already been exposed to asbestos dust around 40 years ago will go on to develop mesothelioma, a terminal cancer, or other asbestos-related diseases, health and safety authorities say.

Asbestos has been a known carcinogen for decades, yet it still presents a risk to plumbers, joiners, electricians and many other maintenance workers.

This is because it may still be present in many older buildings.

Those buildings will need maintenance and repair occassionally, and when the asbestos fibers are disturbed, such as by drilling or cutting, they are likely to be inhaled as a deadly dust.

This, in turn, places workers at risk for asbestos dust related deaths years from now.

Our firm has come across many stories where men and women toiled unprotected from asbestos, later developing mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis as a result of that exposure.

For over two decades, Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. has handled some of the most legally complicated and groundbreaking asbestos litigation in the country. Men and women diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure or secondary exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies responsible for their disease.
