Three East Liverpool, OH Men Charged with Improper Asbestos Removal
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced they had filed charges for the improper removal and handling of asbestos against three men from the East Liverpool, OH area.
Between December 2006 and January 2007, the three men took asbestos-covered pipes from an area landfill, with the intent of selling the pipes as scrap metal. The men removed the asbestos from the pipes using both hand and power tools instead of following federally-mandated guidelines for the removal and disposal of asbestos materials.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
