EPA List of Most Wanted Environmental Fugitives Includes Massachusetts Woman Convicted for Asbestos Violations
A Massachusetts woman who was convicted of on 28 counts of environmental violations pertaining to asbestos removal has been added to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) most wanted fugitives list.
The woman, who was born in the Dominican Republic, was the owner of the largest asbestos removal company in Massachusetts. Over the years, she falsified hundreds of records pertaining to the training and certification of workers to remove asbestos. Those records also showed that many of the employees who worked for the company were illegal aliens, who she paid in cash.
After her November 2008 conviction, she was ultimately ordered to appear for sentencing in March 2009. When she did not appear, the EPA added the woman to their fugitive list.
