Asbestos, the EPA and NESHAP
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to perform a controlled demonstration to provide additional data for the Agency to determine the equivalency of the Alternative Asbestos Control Method to the NESHAP method. This asbestos-containing material on this building consists of about 980 sq ft of residential-grade transite shingles that contain 30-percent chrysotile asbestos. In addition, about 1550 sq ft of commercial-grade transite panels were added to the exterior of the building, also containing 30-percent chrysotile asbestos. The asbestos-containing materials for the first test were positive wallboard systems and vinyl asbestos tile.
