Mr. Golanski is an appellate attorney who has won affirmances of dozens of multimillion-dollar asbestos-related judgments, as well as appellate reversals in several landmark state and federal cases. He has appeared before courts nationwide in many asbestos and other toxic tort actions on behalf of injured clients.
Weitz & Luxenberg is New York’s largest personal injury law firm. It has been practicing mass tort litigation longer than any firm in New York State, and rose to the forefront of asbestos litigation in the mid-1980s.
Mr. Golanski’s practice areas at Weitz & Luxenberg will include: appellate litigation, asbestos and toxic tort litigation, and federal government contract disputes.
He is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Golanski is admitted to the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First, Second, Third, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Tenth and Federal Circuits; U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey and U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Born and raised in Hartford, Conn., Mr. Golanski graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Trinity College in 1983. He graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law (1986) with honors, and went on to earn his Masters of Law degree as a James Kent Scholar at the Columbia University School of Law (2003).
After taking his law degrees, he pursued a master’s degree at the City University of New York (2004), in the field of analytic philosophy. “More than anything, philosophy analyzes our use of language, and so this training always helps me in my legal writing,” he said.
A “lawyer’s lawyer” and prolific author of articles, book reviews and legal briefs, Mr. Golanski is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the United States Court of Federal Claims Bar Association, the Philosophy of Science Association, and the Bar of the States of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Mr. Golanski is a welcomed new player to the firm’s Asbestos Litigation Unit, which has used its might and expertise over the years to obtain billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for those who have fallen ill or died from the ravages of asbestos exposure.
In 2008, Weitz & Luxenberg achieved a $16.25 million verdict in an asbestos case that is the first successful asbestos verdict against a dental supply company. Last year, Weitz & Luxenberg obtained a jury verdict of $37 million for two smokers with lung cancer who had been exposed to asbestos; the defendant was Robert A. Keasbey Co., a former insulation contractor and distributor of asbestos products. And recently, Weitz & Luxenberg’s lawyers secured a $25 million jury verdict in a trial against DaimlerChrysler AG for a New York City brake reliner who lost his right lung to mesothelioma, the deadliest form of asbestos-caused lung cancer.
