Asbestos and automotive friction products

Unlike leukemia, which can have many causes and is often iatrogenic, mesothelioma is a signature disease primarily if not exclusively caused by exposure to asbestos.

Second, no new scientific claim is being made here. It has long been established that mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure is frequently not dose related and relatively small numbers of fibers that are inhaled may remain in the lungs for long periods and cause mesothelioma.

Although the primary epidemiological studies that have established this come from exposure to products other than friction products, there are some epidemiology studies, such as the one involving an Australian registry of victims that have related development of mesothelioma to exposure to friction and automotive products.
