An investigation has be launched involving allegations that a housing association in England has ignored rules on handling the carcinogen asbestos, according to the News & Star last year.
According to the article, a union official presented a petition calling for the association to be disbanded and its jurisdiction over thousands of homes to be nullified.
The official produced a lump of asbestos, safely wrapped, and showed it to the oversight committee.
He then told them that the asbestos had been taken from one of the houses in a highly dangerous fashion, having been swept up with a shovel, thrown onto a flat wagon and taken to a dump.
The union man said this behavior demonstrated the lack of care the association had for its employees and residents in the area.
Environmental officers will now investigate the allegation.
