New bill helps people with pleural plaques, one of the asbestos illnesses
A bill to help those suffering from past exposure to asbestos and resulting illnesses was passed by the Scottish Government, reported BBC News on June 24, 2008.
The legislation would overturn an earlier decision that said damages could
not be claimed for benign scarring of the lungs.
The illness--known as
"pleural plaques"--is an indicator that a victim may later develop a more
serious disease like cancer.
