Industrial Pipefitters Risk Lung Disease from Asbestos Exposure. Our Lawyers Can Help.
In recent news about the dangers of exposure to asbestos, an Emeryville company has been ordered to pay more than $4.3 million in damages to the families of three industrial pipefitters who died of asbestos-caused mesothelioma lung cancer.
Reportedly, one family will receive $1.29 million as part of a verdict reached by a San Francisco jury.
The jury found that Plant Insulation Company, formerly a major industrial insulation products and contractor in Northern California, was 59 percent at fault for a pipefitter's death, according to newspaper reports.
He was exposed to asbestos while working at a variety of industrial sites, an article said.
The company was also found liable for the deaths of a Sacramento County man who worked as a pipefitter at Bay Area oil refineries, and Sebastopol resident pipefitter, who worked at chemical plants and oil refineries in Contra Costa County.
Many industrial pipefitters have come forward to say their work environment led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.
