Fines Assessed in Asbestos Removal Project at Inver Grove Heights, MN School District

In July 2009, a remediation company hired by the Inver Grove Heights, MN School District had been fined for Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) violations regarding an asbestos removal project.

The company was cited for:

  • Improper handling of asbestos-containing materials (ACM);
  • Improper disposal of ACM; and
  • Failure to notify MPCA regarding the removal of ACM.

    In addition, the company was also fined by MPCA for asbestos violations with regard to a January 2008 project at the Sout St. Paul Airport. In that case, the company was cited for the improper removal of 18,700 square feet of siding from two barracks at airport.

    Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious illnesses such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer or asbestosis.
