Lawrence, MA Company Fined for Illegal Asbestos Removal Violations
In March 2009, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced it had fined a company in Lawrence, MA for violating state asbestos removal laws.
The company had been hired to remove asbestos siding at a residential job site. After an April 2008 complaint, the DEP found pieces of asbestos-containing shingles left on the ground. The investigation found the company had been disposing of the shingles with general debris. The fines assessed against the company also include failure to notify the DEP within two weeks prior to the start of an asbestos removal job.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
