In September of 2008, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it had fined the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power $9,030 for violations involving the demolition of structures without notifying the agency.
In August 2007, the EPA and the California Air Resources Board inspectors determined that structures owned by the Department had been demolished, and that the Department had failed to notify the EPA prior to the demolition.
Notification of a demolition of a building with asbestos containing materials (ACM) is under the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHA) regulations for asbestos remediation.
