ASBESTOS LUNG CANCER AWARENESS GOES GLOBAL
International medical societies designate 2010 as “The Year of the Lung”

Lung cancer awareness involves recognizing the risks of on-the-job asbestos exposure, known to lead to a variety of dangerous lung diseases, including mesothelioma. Industries that place workers most at risk for asbestos exposure include the: automobile, construction, electrical, power plant and shipyard industries.

Raising awareness of asbestos lung cancer

December 17, 2009 - The Forum of International Respiratory Societies and the American Thoracic Society have labeled next year “2010: The Year of the Lung,” to help raise public awareness of major human health concerns like air pollution and occupational asbestos exposure, which induces mesothelioma cancer.

The campaign, officially launched during the 40th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Cancun, Mexico, this month, is recognized by 160 nations that ratified the first-ever international public health treaty.

The campaign’s mission: To raise awareness about the causes of lung health, generate social and political support for preventing and treating lung disease, and increase public and private funding for lung research.

Asbestos-related lung cancer

Exposure to asbestos most often occurs by inhaling asbestos fibers. Such exposure is usually occupational, or the result of damaged asbestos-containing materials that release asbestos fibers into the air.

Airborne asbestos fibers can become lodged in the lining of the lungs, causing irritation and eventually leading to the development of lung cancer, asbestosis or mesothelioma.

Time to seek justice

The personal injury law firm of Weitz & Luxenberg has protected the legal rights of asbestos-injured workers since 1986. And in that time the firm's mesothelioma lawyers have won several billion dollars in verdicts and settlements for clients injured by occupational asbestos exposure.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and seek a free review of your situation, please contact the firm through the questionnaire on this page.
