Asbestos found in McFall Elementary School not airborne

Asbestos was discovered in a subfloor at McFall Elementary School during construction work. It is not believed to be airborne.

A person familiar with the details said that the type of asbestos found in the flooring isn't easily airborne and therefore not so dangerous.

Keith Langworthy, an industrial hygienist with MIOSHA, was at the school Tuesday and today to talk with teachers and parents and alleviate any concerns. The district has performed tests to ensure the air is safe.

Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
