Mohawk, NY School Renovation Projects to Include Asbestos Abatement

In February 2009, the Board of Education for the Mohawk, NY Central School District reviewed a number of issues regarding upcoming renovation projects, including asbestos abatement at the district’s elementary school.

The asbestos abatement is scheduled to begin in April, when the school will be closed for spring break. The work to be performed at that time will include removing asbestos-containing mastics in floor tiles and blackboards in five classrooms, as well as floor tiles in the school’s cafeteria.

Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
