Two New Haven, CT Business Owners Fined for Asbestos Removal at Commercial Property
New Haven residents may file a lawsuit for their asbestos illness.
In February 2009, the EPA and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut announced they had reached an asbestos-related settlement with two New Haven, CT area companies for violations of the Clean Air Act.
The violations included the improper removal and disposal of asbestos during the renovation of a commercial property in 2002.
The companies were charged with failing to conduct bulk sampling of suspected asbestos materials in the building’s basement and failing to follow proper procedures for the safe removal and disposal of asbestos.
The suspect materials included asbestos-containing materials and debris from the basement as well as floor tiles thought to contain asbestos.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
