New Waterbury, CT School Project on Track After Asbestos Removal
In March 2009, officials for the New Waterbury, CT school district will break ground for a new grade school. Asbestos has already been removed from portable classrooms at the site pending demolition of the old building.
The new school building will be constructed on the same site as the old school, which was closed over the district’s Christmas break. The district leased a closed Catholic school building, which will be used as the school’s interim facility until the new school opens in September 2010.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
