Asbestos in the News: NJ Woman Wins $7.5 Million Lawsuit Against ExxonMobil
A NJ woman who claimed she contracted mesothelioma as a result of conditions at a refinery has won a $7.5 million asbestos lawsuit against ExxonMobil Corp., according to New Jersey Business on June 2, 2008.
Her lawyers said that she had unknowingly been exposed to asbestos fibers for years as she washed her husband's work clothing.
He worked as a process operator at the refinery, which ExxonMobil formerly owned.
Reportedly, a jury last year found ExxonMobil responsible for the mesothelioma diagnosis. A second trial, focusing on damages, began two weeks ago and resulted in last week’s verdict.
