Oneida County, NY Office Closed After Discovery of Asbestos
In November 2008, the Oneida County Office Building in Utica, NY was closed after a small amount of asbestos was found in the building. The New York Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau conducted air testing after asbestos material was found near the building’s ventilation system.
After the asbestos was removed and air testing revealed no acute danger to building employees, county offices were re-opened two days later.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
