In October 2008, a Peekskill, New York man was charged with illegally representing his company as being certified and licensed to perform asbestos testing.
The Westchester County District Attorney stated the owner of the laboratory had been arraigned on a charge of scheme to defraud, as the company’s certification had been suspended in March 2007 for unrelated violations.
The man faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
Asbestos testing is strictly regulated by State of New York, as it is a dangerous carcinogen. Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
