Asbestos plaster led to lung cancer diagnosis
Did work with asbestos-containing plaster cause mesothelioma or lung cancer? We can help with legal options.
In recent news, a former plaster worker and native New Yorker who has twice beaten cancer says he will fight against all odds after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, a deadly asbestos related disease.
The retired plasterer, Andy Detano, 66, worked for more than 30 years, now struggles to walk and breathe as a result of the debilitating asbestos cancer.
He was recently awarded lawsuit compensation, but the tradesman says he would give every penny back to be fit and healthy.
Doctors told Andy he was at risk of developing mesothelioma shortly after being diagnosed with pleural thickening on the lungs a few years ago.
Since then, the married father of two has been fighting to raise awareness of the disease.
Andy says it was during the time when he helped a joiner insulate a roof, that he was exposed to the deadly asbestos, but was not given any protection, or warned of the dangers to his health.
As a plasterer, you have worked in dusty conditions, repairing ceilings and walls, removing asbestos, using asbestos tiles and plastering. Some exterior stucco and joint compound products were made with asbestos.
"The most important thing for me is knowing that my wife and family will be able to claim compensation if the worst does happen," he said.
