In September 2008, the owner of an upstate New York firm was
convicted of falsifying air
sampling results at asbestos cleanup sites.
The Plattsburgh
man is scheduled to be sentenced in February 2009, and faces a maximum of 25
years in prison plus restitution to victims.
The case involved a job where the man’s company was hired to take samples documenting the removal of asbestos from both commercial buildings and private homes. It was discovered the man conspired with two asbestos contractors to falsify the results of the testing. As a result, the sites were with substantial asbestos contamination.
The two contractors had previously entered guilty pleas for their involvement, and face up to five years in prison.
