Project Plan: Other federal agencies also address asbestos. For example, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulates worker safety and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) conducts related research and monitors asbestos exposure through work-place activities.
The U.S. Geological Survey and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) monitor and regulate asbestos-related mining activities. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulates asbestos in consumer products. The National Institute of Standards and Technology accredits laboratories that test for the presence of asbestos fibers.
