Recently, a man contacted us to say he had relined brakes with asbestos lining at a steel mill for over 15 years.
"My lung capicity has gone down 30 percent," he said.
OUr firm takes cases of asbestos-related lung disease such as asbestosis if the client lived or worked in New York at one time or another, with the possibility of the asbestos exposure being in New York State.

The man we spoke with that relined brakes was an motor inspector at Republic Steel/LTV Steel/Republic Engineered Steel in Massillon , Ohio. He worked there 25 years from 1973 to 1998.
He explained that part of the job was to reline brake shoes for crane brakes. They were Wagner Brakes sizes 13,16,10, & 8, as well as Clark 30" band brakes.
Part of the process, he said, was cutting the asbestos lining with a band saw.
This entailed drilling the lining with a drill press and mounting onto the brake shoes or brake bands.
Sadly, there were no ventalation controls. "The dust just float in the air," he said.
