New Asbestos Removal Method Approved for use in Arkansas

When the town of Chaffee Crossing, Arkansas faced a multi-million asbestos remediation project, they looked to an alternative method to remove the dangerous carcinogen. This new method, which was approved by Arkansas state officials for the asbestos removal project at Fort Chaffee, reduced the anticipated project costs by almost 90 percent.

A company based in Atlanta, GA developed this new method of asbestos removal that uses foam along with a surfactant wetting agent similar to dishwashing detergent.

The combination of foam with the surfactant wetting agent penetrates the asbestos material, preventing dusts and fibers from becoming airborne. The process also keeps the wetting agent against the asbestos material and works it into the material better than water.

After presenting the new technique to Arkansas state officials, a company representative explained that the new process was more effective in containing dusts. The representative also stated this new method is also effective for removing other hazardous substances such as viruses and mold.

Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious lung illnesses such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer or asbestosis.
