Asbestos-Contaminated Site in Connecticut Will Be Cleaned Up

July 11, 2008 – An abandoned industrial site in Connecticut is scheduled for environmental clean up. The site is a former welding factory and contains significant amounts of asbestos. All asbestos-containing materials will need to be removed before the buildings on the site can be demolished.

In spite of the extent of contamination, town officials plan to clean up the location for commercial development purposes, and will be taking bids from developers in the future.

Hazardous materials include asbestos, lead, heavy metals, solvents, and other chemicals. Asbestos releases small fibers into the air. When these fibers become airborne, they may be inhaled into the lungs where they can cause serious health problems such as mesothelioma.

Weitz & Luxenberg is a leading plaintiffs' law firm that has represented people affected by mesothelioma for over 20 years. Men and women diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies responsible for their disease.
